On Thanksgiving Jodie spoke with her dad on the phone. He said to her “so, your spouse is translucent?”
Knowing that her dad has Parkinson’s and quite a bit of resulting dementia, Jodie only recently began discussing my transition with him. She said “well yes dad, my wife is transgender.”
He said, “well the only photo I have of you two is from before, and it’s really hard to explain it well to my friends.”
She says “So dad, would you like a picture of us?”
He replies “Well, yeah!”
She says “Dad, that makes me feel very loved.”
He says “Well honey, I have always loved you!.”
Okay, now I’m crying again! lol I did use this opportunity to convince her that we need more recent photos of us to send to him. These shots are from hopefully the first of 2 photo shoots.
Personally, my relationship with Jodie’s father has not always been the best. When I was sixteen he threatened me in front of my parents and got my dad all sorts of fired up! So to hear him ask for our photos literally made me cry with joy. Such a small sweet thing. And to think, he really was the last of the family to be told of my transition, and yet he was the very first one who asked for photos of us. Wow.

Love is love❤️
That’s a beautiful feeling to be loved in such a simple way. And my favorite is the first picture of you holding hands. ❤
A beautiful moment by all accounts. ❤️ I think you both of you look amazing and I hope the photo is well received.
Loved this post and you two look just adorable together!
This post made me smile. You two look lovely and hope your Dad/Father-in-law is happy with the new pictures. ❤️
Thank you!!!
I agree with Calietg. I have yet to send a picture to my father and because of covid I have yet to visit him and my mother, who has lost her mental clearness, so I speak almost exclusively with my father, who is supportive (paid for my name change), but not in an emotionally satisfying way. When I came out to my parents I was presenting with unisex clothes most of the time still. So he has never seen me visually as a woman. Hope to get the courage soon. Your post just got me thinking a bit. And, yes you make a beautiful couple. Your love for each other really comes through in the pics.
Thanks Stephie! Coming out to family and showing them our true image is incredibly hard and I wish you all of my best whenever that time comes for you.
